Couldn't make our latest virtual event? Don't worry! Catch up on the discussion from our 'Women in Tech' webinar here...
We have been hosting our monthly ‘Tech For Good Talks’ webinar series for nearly three years now and in each and one we like to choose a topic we are passionate about and talk through how technology can lend aid/support it with a panel of experts. Being a digital product agency in the ‘for good space’ we truly believe in the massive power that technology wields in turning the tides on some of the biggest issues facing humanity today and use our platform to spread that message far and wide!
Our previous events have been focused on, circular economy, humanitarian crisis support, and disaster management to name just a few, but we wanted to flip the script. Our hosts, 3 Sided Cube USA Co-Founder, Puff, and, Head of Client Success, Gabby were keen to put the spotlight on women in tech and facilitate a discussion all around what it looks like to be a woman in this sector in 2023.
At 3 Sided Cube, our women in tech help us to innovate AND inspire the upcoming generation of women. We are firm believers that a successful career in tech goes above and beyond coding. Women of different backgrounds joined our webinar to share their own stories about how they’ve taken on an underrepresented industry, the expertise they bring to tech teams, and how they’ve overcome challenges to kick some serious butt in this male-dominated space.
But first, we had to address the low-stat average elephant in the room. While women make up 46% of the agency at Cube, the industry standard is 26%. More and more women are joining this field and feeling welcomed into it, but we still have a ways to go for parity in this space.
This video is a great representation of what changes the tech sector still needs to see.
We were beyond thrilled to welcome such a diverse and incredible group of women to our panel. Each and every panelist had such an impressive breadth of experience working in tech that we were honored to have their unique perspective a part of the discussion. The more times that conversations like this happen, the sooner it stops being a woman in tech thing and just a career in tech.
Without further ado, meet our panelists!
Grace Murugi, Head of Digital Strategy, Oxfam International
Dana Snyder, Founder & CEO, Positive Equation
Maria Petnga-Wallace, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Lead, Color in Tech
Hannah Attride, Head of Digital Products, Marie Curie
Stacy Celestin, Co-Founder, myBalbo
Each and every one of our panelists has built their career on their passion for being a force for good and being a part of driving some serious change in the world. Their collective impact is impressive and we could not wait to pick their brains about the incredible work they do every day. Some of the points we brought to the panel were:
The discussion was extremely insightful, and honestly, we could have chatted with them all day, but we couldn’t take up any more of our panelist’s precious time and had to bring the webinar to a close.
But don’t worry if you missed it, catch up on the entire conversation below!
And that’s a wrap on an epic ‘Tech For Good Talks’! Thank you for joining us and please do shout us a holla if you want to keep chatting about all things women in tech-related or wanted to collab for future events.
In a long-standing tradition, we like to thank our panellists for participating in our events by planting trees in their names and making the world a lil’ greener. However, in light of the recent humanitarian crisis in Syria and Turkey, we decided to donate to NuDay, an organisation working on the ground to support and empower women and children. We all feel at a loss for how to help and it can be overwhelming, but our time and money are what is going to make a difference in the aftermath of this devastating disaster.
I think it’s very important to get more women into computing. My slogan is: computing is too important to be left to men.
