Akshay Khullar, Director of Digital Fundraising at American Humane, joins us to discuss how technology has impacted fundraising efforts.
Technology has developed rapidly in the past 5 years. But how does a legacy organisation like American Humane keep up with new and innovative technology?
We were so excited to find out as we (virtually) sat down with Akshay in the latest episode of Igniting Change.
Tune in below as Akshay talks about how not being afraid of thinking big and starting with small incremental changes can have a huge impact…
Akshay Khullar was introduced to the work of nonprofits through the American Red Cross local chapter during his Junior and Senior years. He even had the opportunity to serve on the student board as Webmaster!
Then when he volunteered during Superstorm Sandy, he experienced the heartwarming feeling of being able to help people in their time of need. A feeling that he has been chasing ever since.
So after graduating from Stony Brook University, Akshay started his journey with American Humane as a web developer. Over the past 10 years, he has worked on email campaigns, live social media campaigns, and created donation forms for the organisation.
Now, Akshay has spearheaded American Humane’s digital fundraising program. Through innovative technology and the development of a comprehensive digital fundraising strategy, online donor acquisition has increased by 215% and online revenue has increased by 200%.
Technology has had a huge, huge impact on our fundraising efforts in general.
For anyone aiming to shift from a risk-averse mindset to embracing new and innovative technology, Akshay talks about how beneficial not being afraid of thinking big has been. But he also encourages starting small to build buy-in to new technology, as it can really support larger changes.
Founded in 1877, American Humane is committed to ensuring animals’ safety, welfare, and well-being. They are the first to serve, wherever animals are in need of rescue, shelter, protection, or security.
The organisation has a wide range of initiatives across the United States. These include the “No Animals Were Harmed®” program, broad-based farm and conservation animal welfare certifications, rapid response rescue, and care.
As for many nonprofits, digital fundraising is essential to help American Humane continue its century and a half of work making life-changing differences for animals in need.
