Someone is reported missing every 90 seconds in the UK.Â
Missing People is the only UK charity dedicated to reconnecting missing people and their loved ones. They offer support to people affected by a disappearance via their free, confidential Helpline on 116 000 and can launch a public appeal to help bring missing people home. They also provide family support, counselling, and specialist services for issues related to missing such as exploitation and County Lines.
This week 3 Sided Cube CEO, Rich and Head of Client Success, Gabby chat with Amy-Kathleen Walker, about the incredible work her organisation does to reunite missing children and adults with their loved ones.
Meet Amy
Our community doesn't have a Facebook amount of users, that isn't our aim. Our aim is to ensure we offer a real and safe community that ensures every single user has what they need.
Amy-Kathleen Walker is the Head of Digital Communities and Development at Missing People. That long ol’ title means that she is responsible for ensuring their online communities are available and safe and she also manages all the “cool fun tech stuff as well”. At the moment it’s on the back end developing a new CRM system working on new wonderful innovations and what she loves about working for a charity!
Amy has over 20 years of experience working for charities within London and the UK. She has worked her way up from age 18 and prides herself on taking every chance to learn from others and teach when she has something to share.
With a passion for tech, digital, and people, she has always sought out roles where the two marry for the greater good.
About Missing People
Founded in 1993 by sisters Mary Asprey OBE and Janet Newman OBE, Missing People is a UK charity that provides specialist support to people who are missing or at risk of missing, and the families and friends left behind. Their free, confidential helpline is available by phone, text, and email to support missing children and adults, and their loved ones.
Their vision is for every missing child, adult, and family left behind to find help, hope, and a safe way to reconnect.
They provide free, confidential support, help, and advice by phone, email, text, and live chat, including the opportunity to reconnect. They also coordinate a UK-wide network of people, businesses, and media to join the search for the estimated 170,000 people who go missing each year.
The services they offer:
- A free and confidential helpline, is available 7 days a week for missing people and their families
- Family support, including telephone counselling
- Runaway Helpline supports children and young people who are away or thinking of leaving
- Supporting missing people with returning and reconnection
- Receiving anonymous sightings and passing them to police
- Case publicity to help families and police appeal and search for a missing person
- Specialist ‘SafeCall’ service for children and young people, and their families, experiencing exploitation
- Services, consultancy, and training for professionals working with missing people and their families
- Research into links between missing and specific issues
- Campaigning and lobbying on behalf of missing people and their families
