An app to truly elevate the Festival experience for every attendee

Glastonbury, the world’s largest and most iconic music Festival, teamed up with Vodafone and Fuse Agency and approached 3 Sided Cube to create an app that would truly elevate the Festival experience for every attendee.

The challenge

Glastonbury, the world’s largest and most iconic music Festival, teamed up with Vodafone and Fuse Agency and approached 3 Sided Cube to create an app that would truly elevate the Festival experience for every attendee.

Their vision was crystal clear: “Provide a genuinely useful and engaging app for Festival-goers that elevates their experience and enables them to personalise and plan their weekend without feeling like a digital intrusion during an unforgettable weekend.”

Some challenges they faced when bringing their vision to digital life were:

These challenges called for innovative, user-centric solutions and we were ready to sink our teeth into the challenge. We set out to build an app that wasn’t just functional but would become an indispensable companion for every Festival-goer, making their Glastonbury adventure smoother, more personalised, and the catalyst for one epic weekend filled with lifelong memories!

The solution

The official Glastonbury Festival 2024 mobile app – powered by Vodafone – launched on both Apple iOS and Android platforms on June 7th 2024!

Navigating the world’s biggest music Festival was no mean feat, and with the app, it was easier than ever! Traversing the sprawling Festival grounds needed to be a breeze. Our solution was to integrate an intuitive live interactive map that helped attendees find stages, areas, vendors, and venues effortlessly, ensuring they never missed a beat of the action.

To keep the user constantly in the loop, the app offered real-time updates, news, and personalised schedules while fully immersing attendees in the Festival’s magic. It was essential to enhance the on-site experience by providing live information without detracting from the spontaneity and excitement of being at Glastonbury, while still ensuring users could use the app in “offline” mode.

Festival-goers elevated their Glastonbury experience with a suite of fantastic features designed to make their Festival adventure unforgettable. From personalised line-ups to live interactive maps, real-time updates, and even the Festival’s own radio station, Worthy FM, the official Glastonbury 2024 app had everything needed to fully immerse in the hedonistic magic of the world-famous music Festival.

What does the app do?

Personalised Festival line-up

Festival-goers explored all the incredible artists performing at the Festival. They crafted their own personalised line-ups, avoided timing clashes and could even view the line-up in a compact view to see more acts at once! The app allowed users to easily browse through the entire Festival line-up, highlight must-see performances, and even share their line-ups with friends. It helped attendees stay organised and make the most out of every moment at Glastonbury.

Live interactive map

Festival-goers navigated the Festival with ease using the live map. They pinpointed stages, areas, and venues, and dived straight into individual line-ups. The interactive map helped find everything from favourite artist’s stages to the nearest food stalls or restrooms, and most importantly - their tent after a long day of Festival festivities. By dropping pins and using real-time updates and detailed layouts, attendees explored the Festival grounds confidently and efficiently.

Latest news & announcements

Attendees stayed in the loop with all the latest news and real-time updates straight from the Festival through instant notifications and news stories. From surprise guest announcements to schedule changes and weather updates, the app ensured users were always informed about what was happening around them. It allowed engagement with official Festival updates and being the first to know about exciting developments.

Food finder and custom filters

Attendees filtered the map to find exactly what they were craving. Whether hunting for BBQ, sushi, or the best vegan tacos on-site, the app made it easy to track down their favourite food stalls. Plus, locating camping shops and official merchandise stands was just a tap away. Users navigated Glastonbury like seasoned Festival pros and never missed a delicious bite or essential pit stop!

Spotify integration & artist discovery

The app linked directly to artists’ Spotify profiles, allowing users to discover new acts and build their ultimate Festival line-up. It integrated seamlessly with Spotify, with personalised recommendations of the line-up, the ability to listen to top tracks, and discover new favourites before and during the Festival. Users personalised their listening experience and got hyped for every performance!

The results

The official Glastonbury 2024 app quickly became an indispensable tool for Festival-goers, who eagerly dove into the app to craft their ultimate Glastonbury experiences. From curating personalised line-ups to navigating the expansive Festival grounds, users fully embraced the app’s features to enhance their Glastonbury adventure.

With over 225,000 downloads, of which 88.9% were from Festival-goers onsite, while 11.1% were from people viewing at home, the app saw remarkable engagement. Festival-goers spent more than 305,000 hours using the app, showcasing its vital role in their Festival planning and experience. The Spotify integration was a standout feature, with 94,200 artists recommended, allowing users to discover and get excited about new music.

Attendees were highly proactive in planning their Festival journey, adding 173,000 pins on tents, stages, bars, and toilets. The ability to share line-ups with friends was also popular, with 75,000 line-ups shared, enhancing the communal spirit of the Festival. The app’s custom map filters facilitated 31,400 searches for food, water, and tents, ensuring that Festival-goers could easily find their essentials. Additionally, the live interactive map handled 88,000 map routes navigated, demonstrating its essential role in helping attendees explore the Festival grounds.

From launch to the Festival’s close, the Glastonbury 2024 app proved to be a game-changer, delivering a seamless, enriched, and unforgettable Festival journey for all who used it.
