TURNING DATA INTO STORIES, AND STORIES INTO ACTION: TACKLING CLIMATE MOBILITY HEAD-ON IN THE GREATER CARIBBEAN.

The Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) approached 3 Sided Cube to create a digital platform to showcase the work of The Greater Caribbean Climate Mobility Initiative (GCCMI), capable of transforming complex data into compelling stories while enabling stakeholders to visualise and act on the impact of climate mobility across the region.

WHAT WAS THE CHALLENGE?

The Greater Caribbean is at the forefront of climate change. Rising sea levels, powerful storms, and extreme weather events aren’t just statistics, they’re realities forcing communities to face displacement and migration. The region urgently needed a way to centralise data, amplify the voices of those affected, and inspire informed action among policymakers, researchers, and the public.

The platform needed to inform, inspire, and empower diverse audiences while showcasing the human impact behind the data.

WHAT WAS THE SOLUTION?

The team at 3 Sided Cube took a design-first approach to create a platform that is as engaging as it is impactful. Using Framer, a tool that allowed the team to focus on bespoke design elements, we built a visually stunning platform that prioritised storytelling and user experience.

This process was heavily informed by user feedback from GCCM’s earlier African Climate Mobility initiative, ensuring lessons learned were carried forward into this project. Key focuses included:

Through a collaborative effort, we ensured the platform balances the depth of information required by researchers with the simplicity needed for wider public engagement.

WHAT DOES THE PLATFORM DO?

GREATER CARIBBEAN CLIMATE MOBILITY HOTSPOTS

This flagship feature showcases 3D visualisations at sub-national scales, offering a localized view of climate mobility . Users can see mobility dynamics in specific geographies, such as coastal zones and urban areas, to better understand how climate impacts might shape where people leave from and move to.

DATA EXPLORER PORTAL

The real powerhouse for analysis. This tool allows users to interactively explore and filter climate mobility data, compare countries and generate projections based on timeframes, climate variables, and demographic categories. Researchers, policymakers, and advocates can also download comprehensive reports for deeper insights.

STANDALONE REPORT DOWNLOADS

Users can download comprehensive reports packed with data insights, regional analyses, and findings on climate mobility impact. These reports act as standalone resources, perfect for supporting research, policy development, and advocacy.

MULTIMEDIA STORYTELLING

Real stories meet real data. The platform brings the human experience to the forefront through powerful videos, photography, and narratives from affected communities. Blending visuals with statistics makes complex data relatable and impossible to ignore.

SEAMLESS USER EXPERIENCE

We designed the platform with a 70/30 focus on design to development, making it intuitive for everyone. With Framer’s bespoke design and interactive tools like hotspot maps, exploring data has never been this smooth.

MULTILINGUAL ACCESS

Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, the platform ensures wider accessibility for populations in the region.

WHAT WERE THE RESULTS?

The platform  stands as testimony to GCCMI’s leadership in advancing the climate mobility agenda. With roll out continuing through spring of 2025, early results are still pending, but its reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with high praise for its:

Projected outcomes include:

Project Fact: The Greater Caribbean Climate Mobility Model uses advanced data projections to reveal potential economic impacts, mobility and immobility due to climate change through 2050 —making the future easier to plan for and harder to ignore.
