USA – blog

21st August 2020, my last day at 3 Sided Cube UK. It feels pretty surreal to be writing that after over 7 years with the best team I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with (every single Cube, past and present).

Why oh why would I want to change what I do when I love it so much, and genuinely enjoy working with an exceptionally talented team?!

Personal growth.

In my time at 3 Sided Cube, the team had grown from 5 to over 40, we had onboarded over 25 clients in the agency and won numerous awards for our work.

But I’d reached a point where I needed a new challenge, I needed to push myself outside of my comfort zone.  More importantly, my family and I were craving an adventure.  As much as I love being a parent and a wife, doing the same thing day in and day out was not something that was going to fulfil him or I long term.

So it’s time for a change!

In 2019 Duncan and I agreed to set up 3 SIDED CUBE Inc and have a physical presence in the USA, which we later, in January 2020 pinpointed to be Chicago. We had planned for multiple planning and scoping trips eventually resulting in a family move in July 2020.  Well, it’s August and we’re still here, and still waiting on visas.

It’s been quite the rollercoaster!

COVID 19 has been many things, and whilst I really can’t complain because my family, friends and team are safe and well it has thrown this whole plan out of the window and forced us into what I can only describe as a state of limbo… where for the past 6 months we have predominantly focussed on keeping the UK business fit and well, whilst picking up the pieces of our best laid US Plans. Not only from a business perspective but also from a personal perspective…. our family home, the girls’ education plans and also my husbands work plans. It’s been chaotic, and extremely hard to juggle.

BUT. And there is a but. Covid has also been an incredible catalyst for flexible and remote working. It’s confirmed that we can still operate out of the UK for the meantime until we can physically move out. So that is exactly what we plan to do.

As of September, I will be full time on the US business, focus solely on growing our reach and client base out there. 60% of our UK revenue comes from the US, and that has grown over the years, so this feels like a natural progression for us, and for my family.

I can’t confirm when exactly our visas will come through, but I can confirm the US office is open for business, and I hope to be out there in Q4 this year.  And if it isn’t this year….then early next year.

But we will get out there!

We broke the news of our pending journey across the pond in the most 3 Sided Cube fashion, and even more on-brand they decided to surprise the hell out of me with confetti cannons!
